My own work here is strictly conceptual. I think of it as being like the "residual self-image" Morpheus tells Neo about in the film, "The Matrix."

Wreck This Journal

Wed Jan 28, 2009, 12:15 PM
what I did with Keri Smith's book.

And then I got a journal: Wreck This Journal, by Keri Smith. She intents it to be an experience in impermanence and destruction. The ultimate end point of Orson Scott Card's "Descolada" idea - making by unmaking a thing as it is, leaving the new thing - wreckage from the original perspective - in the wake of your action(s).

"Most" of the Deviations I've looked at attempt to remove the random, the counter-current influences and the undercurrents; to tame the wild frontiers of art. It's how we view art in the "cultured" west, isn't it?

I mean I (we) feel constrained not to refer to nudes as "sexy." For one thing, if the idea that images are being objectified for a "low" level sexual gratification gets to be too common in the community might it not collapse under a wave of revulsion? Yet can images even actually BE beautiful and ignite no lust in the hearts of Deviants? And can the makers of images control the content or the 'reactions" of an audience?

Still, it's in the doing of image making that I develop the skill to *meaningfully* make choices. And I'm after thinking the choices become the true content of art (SEE "Education Rita").
